Dublin's Sci-Fi Club awarded its top acolades on Tuesday night in a glitzy star-studded ceremony. [LostCarPark]

Suggested categories for next year are:

Most contrived explanation for a character departing a series because the actor wanted more money.

Most contived explanation for a character returning to a series because the actor couldn't find work elsewhere

Best performance by an actor and producer explaining that the actor was replaced for perfectly valid artistic reasons while keeping a straight face.

Tom Murphy over at PR Opinions remembers Douglas Adams. Is it really two years since he passed on.

"If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now."

"Arthur hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realised there was a contradiction there and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife."

[PR Opinions]

And to the above, I shall simply add my favourite quote, which also features in my professional e-mail sig - I'm a journalist if you didn't already know: "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing sound they make as they go by."

There's a first time for everything. The department of Astronomy at Penn State University has a professor called Usher. The members of the faculty recorded an acapella version of a song written by another faculty member and stored it as an MP3 on the department's server. So the RIAA sent them a cease and desist letter for hosting illegal songs by a recording artist called Usher. Fortunately the University stood its ground and that RIAA has been forced to apologise.
