Sebastian Fiedler writes:

"I believe that personal Webpublishing is especially powerful in the context of self-organized adult learning. Most of the so called "eLearning" technologies that adults are confronted with in our days do not even try to support the messy, chaotic, and evolutionary characteristics of complex learning processes over time. In comparison, personal Webpublishing seems a much better fit than all these LMS, course management systems, ... , doesn't it?"

Yes, yes & thrice yes! What I find particularly amusing is that most of these LMSs boast of their MCQ & drag and drop tools... 'scuse me for being smart but who on earth uses discrete point tests in adult & tertiary education... and when exactly did people get their head around the fact that people don't learn by completing tests... sigh...

What I love about these weblogs is that they provide a simple & clear process which allows complex & developed teaching & learning.

Back online after the long weekend.

Thanks to Snapping for giving us a mention, repaying the compliment that's a heck of a good collection of links!

He posts some excellent stuff including:

Writing with weblogs

Ethical weblogging

& HK CityU Notes on Edublogging which contains a host of cracking blogging links. Well worth subscribing to their newsletter I reckon.

Thinking about the 'stickiness' of weblogs at the moment... especially in terms of teaching and learning support across large & complex organisations (such as Unis). I'd imagine that regularly updates content & links provided by a learning services team would greatly improve the possibility of staff using the content regularly... also, and this is something I'll never understand... why don't resource sites like this have e-mail updates? It's blatently the best way of keeping up-to-date with what's going on!

I wonder if anyone's coined the term 'megablogging' (probably not cos it sounds pants :o) ) where rather than a standard website homepage-faculty-specific areas strategy there's an overarching blog linked to other blogs. Blogs can have some fixed content & some PBP space... what better way to give prospective students an insight into your progressive university and keep current students & staff informed & involved!

Ahhhh, if only someone would let me design my own university :o)
