Broken Music from Part 1 of Sting's autobiography:I've often thought that playing a musical instrument is an obsessive-compulsive disorder or a symptom of being socially inept, but I can't decide whether playing an instrument makes you socially inept, or you're a sociopath to begin with and you play an instrument as some sort of consolation. Well, if that is true we are in for a rude few decades because music isn't taught in most schools anymore....and all of us sociopaths who created a life for ourselves with and because of music can be very thankful that music and art education was part of our curriculum. What will a new generation of sociopaths do without the music/art option? Violence, depression, sense of not fitting in...is that where many are headed? - Thanks LR

Culture Music: La Semana work mixes w bass Mood: contemplative While Paco, being Spanish and a Flamenco guitarist, has brought new outside elements into Flamenco, like jazz chords for example, his music remains Spanish Flamenco, albeit with a larger horizon. I, on the other hand, don't feel the gravity of belonging to such a specific culture, i.e. Flamenco and Spain. My culture is a personal mix I have created from many different cultural experiences I have had in my life. Flamenco is one element of my music, but there are many other elements as well. I am still comfortable calling my work Nouveau Flamenco, because the biggest sonic element of my music to the casual listener is indeed Flamenco. In order to make our World whole, we must first fragment what we see into small chunks, which are easier to digest....Then which we can use those chunks to create a new World, pieced together like a mosaic. To the next generation that mosaic will seem like a whole and integrated World. We can then explain where the individual elements/chunks came from, if we want to - that's called history. I would love to hear what Nouveau Flamenco might become two generations from now. Will it be a dead end? Will it be a dead branch of the music tree, while Spanish Flamenco prospers due to its strong roots? Or will NF prosper simply because it is a vibrant combination of so many different styles...

Paco Music: Paco DeLucia - Cositas Buenas Mood: relaxed I am hearing quite a bit of French Gypsy influence on Paco's new album, like he has been listening to Django for a while. It's Flamenco of course and it is Spanish in temperament, but I hear a lot of French Gypsy music there....jazzy chords, and almost a swing feel in some of the rumbas etc...I love the last track...the trumpet is something new for Paco, I believe.
