Another day in Paradise
Steve Sloan's weblog. A bit tech, a bit bikes, a bit family, a bit friends, a bit scooters, a bit photo, a bit trains, a bit fun. Eight bits; that's a byte!

Chauncy's visit, Reagan dies; what a weekend!

The
Chauncys

The Chauncy's Visit
Over the last several months things have been very hectic. We have had the book project, my trip to Spokane, the kittens, my accident and recovery plus all the ongoing regular stuff that is life. It has been hectic and we have not spent a lot of time with friends and family. On Sunday we made up for lost time a bit by having a joint birthday celebration barbecue for both Jonathan and Diane. We had a great time. Fran, Sue's mom, also came over and we all had a good time celebrating. Owen slept most of time, waking to eat a few times. The tom kittens kept everybody amused. It was fun!

Reagan Died
Being a died in the wool liberal democrat I was not very happy the day Ronald Reagan became president. I was so depressed that on that day in 1984 was the day I started journaling. I had a lot of memories of his acts as California's governor including his reaction to the Peoples Park demonstrations in Berkeley and his press briefing after Ceasar Chavez announced the grape boycott where he appeared on TV eating grapes. The best thing he did, in my opinion, was resurrecting the New Jersey class battleships. They were just too cool. But, I got to give him credit for ending the cold war by spending the Soviets to death. I would like to go to the Reagan library some day. He was personable and faithful to his principles and I admire that.
