Jinni has been working on her next installment of Jinni's Journal for the News & Record and she let me read parts of it before submitting it to the paper today.  (The link to the first one is already dead - oh well)  The part that caught my eye was the solution to every elementary school parent's dread - what to do for a science project.  From her Journal...

"Today, Jesse (my ten year old son) came home with a reminder that the dreaded Science Project is due after the Holidays.  A light bulb went off in my head.  "Jesse", I said "Have I got a science project for you!  This year you might even win an award, heck you might even go all the way to State.  We'll call it 'The Effects of Chemotherapy on my Mommy'..."

State my eye... he might just make it to the national level by virtue of the sympathy factor alone.

I'm not sure when the next publication date will be, but I will keep you posted.

My last week in Charlotte, actually half a week as I should be getting back Wednesday evening.  Here's a couple of odds and ends.

Roch Smith Jr. has been very busy.  He listened to all of the input on his Greensboro101.com site and implemented all of them.  Take a look.  I like it... a lot.

Last night's luminary display here in the 'hood was awesome.  Although Jesse and I didn't get backfrom the Panther's game until late, the candles were still burning.  The N&R sent Meredeth Barkley over to cover the festivities, and he really caught the spirit of the night.  Meriedith has covered many Aycock happenings over the years and I'm glad he was able to get back over here before his Nov. 20th retirement (via JR's Blog).  Thanks for everything Meredith.

Many of the quotes in Barkley's article involved a guy whom fellow neighborhood blogger David Wharton terms "The Indispensible Neighbor" on his blog this morning.  I couldn't agree more.  Tom Franklin is an amazing man and a great friend.  He embodies the very essense of what we are here in Greensboro's greatest neighborhood.

I'm going to try get back in time to attend the Greensboro Blogger Meet-up Wednesday night.  Hope you can make it, too.  It is open to al webloggers, all wanna-be webloggers, and all interested parties who might just want to put a human face on your favorite weblogs and buy us all a drink for our efforts.  Just let Billy know you are coming via this link.
