The Shu points us to Yes! Weekly, Greensboro's soon-to-be-published upstart alternative weekly paper.

Their pre-release website indicates to me that they get it from the git go.  Their so-far spartan home page has a list of links to not only Greensboro is Talking's weblog, but also all other local media's websites including the Rhino Times and the N&R.  They call their link section "Other Guilford Media" which is unprecedented by any local print publication locally, and almost bloglike if you think about it.

By providing their readers with direct links to other media outlets, they demonstrate an understanding of the changing media landscape around here and are setting themselves up as a local news portal.  Their 'blogrollish' links point to what has previously been referred to as media competition, but I'm thinking that Yes! Weekly might just understand that the various forms of 'Guilford media' are more accurately media collaborators.  We're all striving toward the common goal of dissiminating information to a local audience.  Some for profit, some not.

Take note Lex and J.R.

I liked Cone's column this morning, he and I have the same disdain for the souless term "Happy Holidays".  I've had similar thoughts about the subject...

"For the past many years, since the onslaught of political correctness, Thanksgiving Day has been the start of my personal crusade against the phrase 'Happy Holidays' ...Any time someone offers up this generic, dry, no-real-meaning greeting, I unabashedly respond with "Merry Christmas!...".

TheMiddle, a weblogger over near some non-city called Research Triangle Park, read Jay Rosen's piece yesterday about Greensboro's blogging scene and was shocked and baffled by what he read.  Opines Andy...

"...If that town can get together and make peoples lives better through improved communication, imagine what would happen if a real city got motivated? It boggles the mind."

Now... go on over there and talk to Andy, but be nice.
