Let me first say this about what transpired tonight with regard to Aycock and Lincoln Middle Schools: My children were not directly affected by the Board's actions. Josie is an 8th grader at Aycock and will be at Grimsley High next year. My rising 6th grader, Jesse, is in the Spanish Immersion (SI) program that will continue to be housed at Aycock next year. Even if the Board had voted to move SI to Lincoln or elsewhere, we would still send him to Aycock next year. The school is a block from our house. Aycock is our school... simple as that.
I've been trying to digest what happened tonight with regard to 'our school' and, to be truthful, I'm not sure what to think yet. But my first take is there were some big winners, and some big losers that came out of a very unexpected vote tonight by our School Board....
