Look at the time stamp. Pretty pitiful for those of us who are leaving for Florida at oh-my-God-o'clock in the morning.
I spent the day estimating new window fixin' jobs and negotiating with rental car companies because I am satisfied that my 1977 Scout just wasn't going to be the proper chariot for the trek to the Space Shuttle and beyond. At 2 gallons to the mile I would have had to acquire a co-signer or two just to pay for the fuel. (not to mention that my Scout lacks any semblance of air conditioning at any speed below 50 MPH). So Enterprise rentals is getting some of my hard-earned money and my Scout will just have to cool its tires and grace our driveway for a week or so.
Eleven year-old Jesse is psyched about his AAU tourney (which he has raised the money for himself, BTW) and 13 year-old Josie is hopped up to see Cypress Gardens and Mickey Mouse. Me?... I'm just glad to get the hell out of Dodge even if it does mean leaving Jinni and 14 year-old Jackson to their own very capable devices. I really need to cop a break and am grateful for the opportunity.
(Note to my parents in Kentucky... I promise to provide a play-by-play of Jesse's team's progress replete with pictures, just as you have requested. ESPN will be carrying some of the proceedings - check your local listings.)
After I return late next week, Jinni and I will hopefully have made up made our collective minds about whether or not I will rescind my previously-ruled-out at-large City Council candidacy. Jinni has signed off on the generalities of the proposition, but, of course, the devil is in the details of where the money and votes will come from. After a flurry of phone calls over the weekend, most of those questions will (hopefully) have been worked out by the time I return.
I will blog my way through the Sunshine State and keep everyone apprised of rocket launches and baseball games. Stay in touch.
