New England winter cookout

We got about 5 inches of light fluffy snow yesterday. Not enough to cause trouble on the roads and light enough to use a broom instead of a shovel on the front steps. I went out for a walk late in the afternoon and there were kids sledding down the hill across the street. I notice that it stays light later now. Unfortunately the cold is back – wind chill of 3° today. The forecast for the next three days is as follows: brisk, cold and cold.

Today it looks like it’s snowing, but I think it’s just the wind picking up the fluffy stuff and tossing it around. It goes sideways and sometimes it even lifts straight up. Looking at my gas grill piled with snow I realize I haven’t used it in awhile. Some years I’ve continued to grill all winter, but I haven’t touched it since late fall. Maybe it’s the cold or maybe it’s all the reports of PCBs and mercury in the fish, my favorite grill food. Maybe I’ll get the broom out later on and sweep it off.
