I had a follow up conversation with Tom Lynch of Infor regarding the Datastream acquisition that I previously posted last week.
He said there is a strong demand among its customers for connecting assets to the business system. Therefore the Datastream acquisition made a lot of sense. "This acquisition helps us put together a deeper and broader portfolio of products."
According to Lynch, Infor is not a portfolio management company, but it is actively working toward integrating the various products it has acquired with a service-oriented architecture. "Actually, we deliver products integrated with the SOA without our customers even knowing it," said Lynch. "Many customers don't concern themselves with the underlying technology. They just know what they want, and they want it to work together. What's great about Datastream is that they've already started down this path, so now we just have to get them converted from its proprietary method to the OAGIS standard."
