I started devoting space every year to energy efficiency in our first full year (2004) of Automation World. Back then, "green" was almost a political keyword in a politically charged time. Now, with the Republican Florida Governor calling for better environmental stewardship (something I've always thought of as "conservative" as in "conserving"), the issue has finally gone beyond crass partisan politics and into a broader concern for our world.
Opto 22 always seems to be a bellwether for coming trends, and here is another example. Check out this Web page and consider it another challenge from Gary to consider what you're doing for our Earth, and for the Earth of our grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on. There are some interesting ideas here.

ISA has announced a book that is designed to help prepare you for the Control Systems Engineering exam. I have not read it, but I would bet that it would be a valuable reference for all process control engineers even if you're not taking the exam. I've seen an overview of the requirements, and if you know all the material required, you are certainly someone I'd want around my plant. "Control Systems Engineering Exam Reference Manual: A Practical Study Guide", by Bryon Lewis.
