Received a comment from Bosch Rexroth regarding my challenge spurred by talks with end users about technology providers helping them with standard programming interfaces. I also had a chat with several Rockwell Automation people on the same subject that will lead to a future podcast interview. I think that there will be some significant news for users coming in several months.
Dick Caro had a comment regarding my report on Rockwell's purchase of ICS/Triplex and its subsidiary IsaGraf. Gebert had little to say about IsaGraf other than some of its technology will be used in Logix. I don't believe Rockwell Software exists as a separate entity any longer.

My colleague Jane Gerold just forwarded a press release from Emerson Process Management regarding its wireless sensor program. It is announcing a "Smart Wireless Innovators Contest" to recognize its customers for innovative applications of Emerson's Smart Wireless solutions. The release notes it began shipping products to "users" in December 2006.
This global contest will run until March 31, 2008. A panel of customer peers will judge and award prizes in "most innovative use of wireless technologies" and "greatest business impact from using wireless."
To qualify, applicants must include at least five of Emerson's Smart Wireless instruments with a 1420 Smart Wireless gateway or ROC800-series Remote Operations Controller with on-board wireless gateway, and AMS Device Manger software with wireless Plantweb interface.
Contest winners will receive free admission to the 2008 Emerson Global Users Exchange in Washington DC where they will be formally honored with a crystal Award and $2,500 in cash. They'll also have an opportunity to present papers.
Contest submittals must include a description of the actual Smart Wireless application, business objectives, Emerson technologies involved, and assessment of performance and results achieved. Go to this link.
This is a great idea. I've been involved in judging papers for one company for 10 years and another a couple of times. Customers submit great papers. And often they'll talk to journalists, too. Then we can pass the stories along. I hope there are several stories to pass along from this year's edition of Emerson Exchange, as well. Anyway, good luck to the applicants.

I don't feel so out of it with my library now. I can also show this to my wife in case she harbors evil thoughts about my wall of books. From The New York Times.

If you're an Emerson Process Management customer or thinking about exploring its products, registration for the Emerson Exchange in Dallas September 10-14 is now open. I'll be there, feel free to stop me and give me your automation thoughts.
