Lief Ericson or no? [posted by Troy] Check out this Nova special about a fake Viking map that was given to Yale. I think that this kind of discussion is pretty cool. It underscores the importance of maintaining the integrity of historical documents. This is why it is worth spending money on archives (and libraries, for that matter). Without strong documentation, the events of history (and meaning of the events) come down to a war of my word against your word.

Word has it that Dean is going to take control of the Democrats. This should be entertaining. Maybe, just maybe, our country will cease to have two Republican parties.

Held Without a Hearing [posted by Troy] Back in the olden days, the king could just lock someone up without a trial or a hearing. It didn't matter if the king or government proved that you had done anything wrong. Well, luckily for us, our government doesn't do that kind of thing. Well, that is until recently, when it seems like we sacrafice ideals in the name of the war on terror. Check outthis page from Amnesty International and this page from the Washington Post.
