Or You Won't Feel Safe (which is the point) [posted by Troy] There is a feeling of fear in our country, a feeling of being watched, and a need to spy on your neighbor. It's like 1984 + 20. Here's just a few examples: - First, there's the "join or die" thing about supporting the War in Iraq, where it's a crime to even criticize the war. I really enjoyed this piece about Yellow Ribbons from NPR.
- Then, there's the White House
paying journalist to support certain policies. Not quite freedom of the press.- Naturally, we can't forget the rise in surveillance cameras across the country. Careful, your opinion may get caught on tape.
- Then we got the FCC cracking down on the airwaves so that innocent kids don't see evil nipples. It's mindlessCensorship at it's best. It's like it's ok to see a woman's nipple only if we are a new born. Anyone else will go to hell.
Thus is the post 9/11 world. The thought police are here to protect us for four more years.
