Another Perfect Day
I wonder why it is that in summer, our needs seem so much simpler. Although nothing particularly spectacular happened yesterday, it was one of those perfect days. After I dropped Iris off at work, Jamie and I spent a few hours downtown, where a street festival was going on (in fact it's taking place the whole month of July). There were buskers, artists showing their work and artisans selling their goods. There was such a wonderful feel to the downtown area. Iris' group will be a part of this, but won't be starting their performances until July 12.
After we came home, I sat outside on the deck with my book. There was just enough breeze to keep the bugs away, and the sun felt glorious on my skin. Then I looked up and saw two eagles soaring high above me. Unusual to have eagles flying in this part of town. Ten minutes later, I looked up and one eagle was very close to the roof of our house. Amazing. What beautiful creatures they are.
Joe, who'd spent much of the day digging stumps out of our back yard (he'd removed several trees a while back but had never gotten around to taking out the stumps) came out and started up the barbeque. He put two whole chickens in, propped them up on two almost full cans of beer, and let them cook for an hour or so.....fabulous! So tender. The chicken, along with a simple salad, was dinner.
The news that topped off the day was that Alan's soccer team took gold at the tournament. I missed his phone call, but he left a message. I don't have details - they haven't been keeping their web site up to date. But it being a Tier 1 tournament, I think that's quite an accomplishment. They fly home tonight so I'll get the full scoop then.
