I picked Jamie up from summer bible camp yesterday. He had a blast, and seemed none the worse for wear (the last thing he said to me before he left was, 'Don't worry Mom, I won't let them brainwash me.') He knows that I have a real concern about organized religion, and when he asked to go to this camp I was quite hesitant.
It's interesting to watch him.....he shows a strong interest in learning about all things spiritual, and he's totally open to anything. The First Nations' spirituality in particular is second nature to him. Sometimes I look at this child and wonder where he comes from...he just doesn't always seem of this earth.
Another Son
And speaking of children, I am about to be blessed with another son. Alan's friend Jared has asked to live with us for about a month or so, after which time he and Alan plan to get their own apartment. Jared's mom moved south a few months ago to take a job, but he chose to stay and graduate with his friends and play on the Yukon's Canada Summer Games soccer team (he's an amazing goalie). Until now he's been living with another friend, but he's feeling the family needs some 'alone time' so has approached us. He'll move in after he and Alan come back from the Canada Summer Games in mid-August.
I'm delighted. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Jared. He's a really good guy with a level head on his shoulders, and I think it will work out OK. Jamie has volunteered to give up his room and will bunk in with Alan for the month.
