While this quake was minor, experts do say running outside is not a good idea. The best place to be is actually in a doorway of your home. Shockwaves from that earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico crossed the state from one end of the coast to the other. Dawn and Richard Wolff experienced their first earthquake from their Daytona Beach Shores beachside condo on the 14th floor. Tremors rattled the couple's chandelier, bed and nerves.

Congress likely will approve some changes to the flood insurance program. But it's unlikely lawmakers will do much to help people like McFarland. One reason is that there is little time left on the congressional calendar. Another is that there's limited support in Congress for changing an industry with such substantial political clout.
