I know, I gotta stop being a blogging fiend today, but that is what happens when snow, late football games, and a very cold Sunday come together.

I made some tweaks to my blog today. Nothing striking, but some cool stuff. It's amazing what Google can turn up for you.  Take a look and see if you notice the additions.

I also noticed that Johnny Carson, the undisputed King of Late Night Comedy, has died. I find this news to be eerily coincidental, considering the news reports of a few days ago that Johnny sent jokes to Dave Letterman to use in his monologue. That said, the first mention I saw of it today was over at Snay's. I found another post, though, which sums up Johnny and his impact on television here, via Dan Gilmor.

Nonetheless, even though Carson became dated, he was a television icon who will be remembered.

In the immortal words of one Homer J. Simpson, I can sum up today with one expression:  Booooorrring!

Honestly, it is not that bad considering that most of my cleaning is done.  I will sheepishly admit, however, that I have been the picture of domesticity these last couple of days:
  • Dusted the apartment yesterday;
  • Vaccuumed the apartment today;
  • Laundered my clothes yesterday and today;
  • Stripped and changed the sheets on my bed;
  • Ironed shirts that needed ironing.
You read that last bullet correctly: I own an iron, and I have been known to use it from time to time on those shirts that I own that need ironing.  I even shopped and paid good money for my iron.  Please, feel free to comment and shame me for such an admission.

My afternoon is pretty dull and boring today.  My friends cancelled the "thank you for setting up our computer" dinner, as one of the hosts is not feeling well today.  I had no problem with that, and I will await its rescheduling.

I need to go to the grocery store, but I think I will wait until tomorrow when I know that the stores will some sort of a return to normalcy.  Of course, every time I open my refrigerator it bellows at me for being as empty as it is.

So, since I am home here hanging out, I might as well be somewhat constructive and do some things while watching the football game.  My list of things to do for the afternoon includes:

  • tweak the ol' blog;
  • respond to some personal and work-related emails;
  • make some shopping lists;
  • research digital cameras;
  • research and apply for some jobs.
Damn, I have been quite the blogger today.

NA and 17 degrees F at Baltimore, Inner Harbor, MD. Winds are NA. The pressure is 29.92" (1013.1 mb) and the humidity is 59%. Last Updated on Jan 23, 10:54 am EST. [Weather at Baltimore, Inner Harbor, MD - via NOAA's National Weather Service]

I have yet to see this feed ever give me wind speed, but I know it is whipping around out there. Just what I need to encourage me to get in the shower to warm up. After that, it's off to get some coffee and possibly brunch.

Last night, my neighborhood friends and I decided to trudge through the snow and partake in what has become a tradition: rendezvous at the Cross Street Market for beers and good conversation.  We were there for a little bit, and then we separated for some food.  My friends went to Thirsty Dog for food, and since I abhor the disgusting beer they have on tap, I went to Sean Bolan's with another fellow Irishman.  Our other friends met up with us, and more good conversation and beer was had.  I had a nice end of the evening, with a Yuengling and a couple of episodes of Sealab 2021 at my friend's place.

It is amazing to see what happens around here after a snowstorm.  Everyone in Federal Hill, Locust Point, and South Baltimore all begin to emerge from being homebound just as the snowstorm ends.  They then bundle up and sojourn off to the nearest watering hole for beers, food, and the warmth of heat and friends.  It is actually a pretty interesting thing to watch.

So, it appears that my local friends and I have begun our own tradition, adding to the ones began by the true locals.  It is somewhat refreshing to be part of an ongoing tradition, even if it does involve consuming lots of beer.

I love living in Baltimore. Only in this city can one enjoy hours of coverage of a snow event on Sunday morning. As I write this, the TV in the other room has Ron Matz from WJZ interviewing some poor city worker who has been busting his chops overnight to take care of the streets. A simple report of the current conditions and any other notable news would be nice. Instead, we get treated to "THE SNOW SHOW."

That said, I am still annoyed about the innate ability of our weather forecasters to be so incredibly wrong. We certainly did get a nice 6 inches, but nowhere near the foot that was expected. Of course, looking at some of the images on the web from Boston shows they are being walloped. There is still no end in sight for them today. This is one of the times I miss my old college town. By 4:00 PM yesterday, the snow had ended.

Presumably, there will be delays and closings tomorrow. Nonetheless, that does not solve my current problem. I need to do some shopping, but I also have the overwhelming need for some coffee and brunch. I need to have some of those things before watching the afternoon football games.
