Wine of the Night
A twin wine bill and a dinner party all in one!!!!

Peter and I had John Fleming and Jim Dunlap over for dinner this evening. They're up for their biweekly week at GCI's Anchorage offices - they work one week up in Anchorage and two in Seattle - or something like that.

The guy at our living piano is John, who is quite the pianist!

Anyhoo, John and Jim are major buddies in general and major wine buddies specifically. We started off the evening with d'Arenberg's 1999 Dead Arm. A McLaren Vale Shiraz. Unfortunately, I had dental work involving novacaine this afternoon and was still in drool mode when we opened the wine. I was assured by all that it was great - big, rich, and spicy. Unfortunately, the only taste my novacained up tongue could detect was tanins. Lots of tanins. But the boys raved about it. So it must have been good.

We then moved on to one of the worst wines any of us have recently tasted: Anapamu Syrah. I hate to be crude here, but total shit would describe both its nose and flavor. Even my dead tongue figured that out. Turns out the Anapamu is a Gallo wine. Gallo is actually capable of making drinkable wine. This is not one of them.

And here we all are after dinner and lots of wine. Starting at the left and going clockwise: Clemmie (the dog), Jim, John, Alix, Peter, and Whitney.
