David Griffiths for Manx Harriers reports 'The walks will provide an early-
season opportunity for the international athletes to record fast times as
they build towards their championship events later in the year, and several
very high- quality entries have already been received.'
'Amongst the visiting athletes, double Olympian and multi-
international Olive Loughnane from Ireland and her compatriot Colin
Griffin will be contesting the 20k race alongside English
Commonwealth Games hopefuls Andi Drake, Kath Horwill, Sharon Tonks,
Jo Hesketh and highly promising English junior Katie Stones. A strong
local challenge in the 20k race will come from Steve Partington,
Peter Kaneen, Robbie Callister, Marie Latham and Bridget Kaneen, with
more quality entries anticipated. Entries for the 10k race received
so far include top Irish junior Peter Muldoon, England junior Jenny
Gagg, Dave Turner from Yorkshire, and locals Neil Bates and Sean
Hands. There is also a 5k race, and a 1-mile challenge for juniors
aged under 17. The day concludes with a 10k run featuring some of the
island's leading road runners.'
'For the walkers, there will be a coaching session at the NSC on
Sunday morning led by Great Britain international coach Andi Drake.
This is an excellent opportunity for walkers of all ages and
abilities to get technical advice from a top coach. More details will
be available on race day [radical] all welcome.'
'Also online at www.manxharriers.com, which may be of interest, is an
interview I did with Olive Loughnane a few days ago. She talks about
happy memories of her previous trips to the Isle of Man, the highs
and lows of her career in athletics so far, her hopes for 2005
including the race on the Isle of Man next week, her thoughts on the
Parish Walk(!) and plenty more. '
