RW Coach wanted!

Message from Tudor Bidder (click on the enclosure for advert):

'I am please to send to you the job advert for the AIS Race Walking Coaching Position and hope that you can publicise this on websites, magazines etc as quickly as possible so that we can recruit the best available and interested person to world with us here in Canberra. We are looking world wide for the right person and hope that you can help us do this.'

'We are interested in recruiting a world class coach to join the other medal winning coaches that we have here at the AIS Athletics program in Canberra, Australia.'

'The AIS facilities and intensive training centre is one of the best in the world, with world leading Sport Science and Sport Medicine people as well as facilities/equipment, training courses and world class know how.'

'In 2006 the new $65m AIS indoor training facilities will be completed and opened to add yet another asset to the already world leading services program for the preparation of medal winning athletes. This includes an indoor Athletics Training Hall along with expanded strength training and recovery facilities to match anywhere in the world.'

'At the Athens Olympic Games, AIS walkers won Bronze medals in the Men's 20KmW (Nathan Deakes) and women's 20KmW (Jane Saville- EX- AIS, now living overseas with her husband).'

'The AIS Athletics Program has a very bright future as we search for future Olympians to fill the Australian Walks Team in 2008and 2012, and we are very enthusiastic about hearing from anyone interested in joining us here in Canberra.'

Regards

Tudor Bidder

Update: - I checked the contradiction in the advert that says they require Australian citizens only. This apparently is not necessary (and would also conflict with previous history - Ronald Weigel previously did the job).

Ability to get the right visa would be a requirement however.

Open Invitation Meeting Saturday 5th March

20km start

Still sorting through all the photos taken from sunny Isle of Man - yes I came back with something of a tan!

Lots of material to cover (results for the races are on the Manx Harriers site) the main thing to mention though was the friendliness of the Manx men and women! They say the appreciate people coming over since they know how difficult it is to travel there. But, as Olive Loughnane described it, flights are to 'a real in-and-out airport'.

Forty plus walkers and families filled La Piazza Italian restaurant on the Saturday night where tales were told of the Parish Walk that dominates the sport in the Ireland. True to form on the way back to the airport there were indeed race walkers not recognised by me before out training up the steep road from Douglas.Steve Partington

I recorded Andi Drake's presentation the morning after the races - which I'm listening to as I type. I'll edit to take out some of the noises off from the boy's hockey game going on outside the Manx Harriers club house.
