Tom Clifton: The number of military personnel killed in hostile activities in Iraq has reached 1000. With seven Marines killed earlier today CNN's total reached 1000. Cryptome.org is reporting 1017 deaths (not including the seven today), based on Department of Defense reports. I am not sure where the accounting difference is. I don't think that is is important. The bottom line is 1000 of our best and brightest are gone. Are we any safer as a result of their sacrifice?

Eric Meyer: There's a faint tendency in my work to operate in threes. I wrote a theory book, a reference book, and a practical book, for example, even referring them to the three legs of a stool. (Okay, so I've written more since then.) Hopefully, this will serve as the third of three posts on tables and layout, and not the third of more than three. I have other things I want to write about that have been delayed, and honestly, I grow weary of tromping the same ground again and again...

Matthew Rothenberg: Another Mac trade show, another no-show for a keyboard-free Apple portable. Apple Expo in Paris indeed provided a launchpad for a radically redesigned iMac desktop that in many ways turns the tablet concept on its side; but while recent Apple patent filings for a "handheld computer" sparked optimistic predictions about a whole new portable platform, an actual slate was not in the offing. So what's the frequency, Philip?

Adam Curry: I spent a some time over the weekend working on a central resource for the iPodder project. I decided on iPodder.org, since this isn't a commercial project, the dot org seemed fitting. iPodder.org is a weblog, which I will update when there's news, but also contains directories of audio programs you can subscribe to and where to download iPodder for your system.
