I was reading an essay by Tim Berners-Lee today and I began to think about creativity and leadership. I often imagine what I would do in certain situations if I were the President of the US. (I live 10 blocks from the White House.) I would imagine that being a great President would require huge amounts of creativity, but I can't say I've ever gotten this sense from the Presidents of my adult lifetimes. I'd love to see us elect an artistic President. Does it say something about us that we've haven't elected one in recent history? Have we ever?

I just read this piece from last spring on Mary Meeker and here's the takeaway excerpt for me:
Her "real" constituency, she added, is professional money managers and other institutional investors.
Do the people who quote analysts like her in consumer-level publications get this? Do they realize that these folks fly at a different altitude than the rest of us and thus their perspectives are entirely different than those closer to the ground? And, that these analysts are hugely conflicted?
