Posted from my Newton using NewtJab

While playing around with different Jabber clients, I discovered NewtJab a Jabber client for the Newton. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to use my Newton on the net since Ricochet died. Then I remembered that someone was working on a driver for 802.11b cards.

It turns out that a lot of progress has been made since I checked a year ago and the driver now works with my Farallon Skyline card. I tried it out and it works! So, I was able to make the post above.

This post was made via Jabber IM.

This tripped me up for quite a while. I was following Jake's directions, but could only get the "Sorry, I don't understand that." message.

I dived into the responder script and it worked correctly. Finally I checked the responder condition script, and modified it to store the screenName in the scratchpad. That's when I discovered that my screenName included the Jabber client name "trclifton@jabber.org/JabberFoX". Adding this full screenName to user.im.responders.metaWeblog.prefs.allowedScreenNames fixed the problem and allowed me to post the message above.

Beta: Instant Messaging in Frontier/Radio. Frontier.UserLand.Com: Beta: Instant Messaging in Frontier/Radio. [Jake's Radio 'Blog]

Cool, I just started playing with Jabber yesterday. I was having problems getting this to work this morning. But switching clients from Fire to JabberFox did the trick. Now to try posting to the weblog.
