Jaguar thoughts

I finally received Jaguar yesterday evening. Installation was simple. I did a standard upgrade, so my dock wasn't altered except for the addition of Mail and iChat.

The speed boost is substantial on my machine. The Recent Items menu is now useful. Scrolling with the mouse wheel needs to be throttled back some. The system is very snappy now. I haven't played with the new Mail app yet, and only opened iChat up for a look. With the new finder, Sherlock is no longer needed on the Dock (Watson provides the same features and more tools). Goodbye.

I am probably most impressed with the little things. Get Info is now useful, you can use it to set file and folder permissions. Spell checking is used by more applications including TextEdit. The Calculator can be used for more than simple arithmetic (thought the conversion functions aren't really intuitive).

It took some digging, but I finally found out how to set up a "software base station" with AirPort. It is under the Internet tab of Sharing in the System Preferences (not certain I would have ever looked there). I was able to get a wireless connection with my Newton, but I haven't been able to get a wep connection working. This frustrating, because it is something that I was looking forward to.

AirPort frustrations aside, I am really pleased with Jaguar.
