Two articles on Spam

Dan Gillmor and Gene Steinberg via (Mac Net Journal) discuss two sides of spam filtering.

Gillmor's article is a cautionary tale about over zealous techniques by SpamCop. Nobody should have a site shut down because of one spam report.

Steinberg's article is a favorable review of spam filtering in Apple's Mail.app. He cites a 97% accuracy rate with the filtering. This, along with bounce capabilities is make Mail.app useful spam fighting client.

SpamCops heavy-handed approach cannot be condoned. It is far too easy to spoof a domain. But local filtering and bouncing is a viable response. As email clients, like Mail.app become smarter, spam should disappear. I hope that other email client vendors adopt Apple's approach.

Tara Grubb is a candidate for U.S. Congress, North Carolina, District 6.

WELCOME  to my weblog.  At this site you will be able to ask questions about my views on topics important to you.  Periodically I will post short commentaries, essays or questions for my visitors to answer. [Tara Sue Grubb's Radio Weblog]

This should be an interesting thread to follow. Weblogs should be a usefull tool for getting a political message out. But, it has to be done correctly. Periodic postings will not cut it. The candicate must present news and views every day to be heard.

At the same time, the candidate cannot focus solely on there web presence. A strong web presence alone will get you about 8000 votes in a city of just under 1 million. In contrast, a direct mailing yields about 13,500 votes. And neither of these efforts were sufficient to unseat an incumbent mayor (57,315 votes)
