Somewhere near the mark: "Ah! Now we are starting to see how web logs can be implemented outside the software development hotbed. An awful lot of blogging is about blogging. In the early stages this is to be expected, but it must open up more to become useful in life beyond geekland. Is it all about knowledge? What about art? entertainment? recreation?"

I agree, but by posting this am I bloggin about blogging?  11:56:42 PM  permalink

Alaska!

Here's a picture of my backyard. Well, not exactly my backyard, but you get the idea. I took this picture from the window of a 737 on my way from Anchorage to Portland, OR. The ice flow is the Tazlina Glacier--about 350 miles from my house.

Salon.com Life | The existence of dog: "At first, I was skeptical. The passion that provoked Isaiah to crow with delight at the approach of a shaggy canine was completely foreign to me. But now, I am won over."

It's really almost impossible for a "dog person" to explain "it" to someone who's never had a dog, but this essay comes close. So do Jerry's pictures.  6:27:59 PM  permalink

The Smoking Gun: Archive: "The ABC television network, which recently broadcast the racy Victoria's Secret lingerie show and has shown the posteriors of many "NYPD Blue" stars--including the lumpy rear of Detective Andy Sipowicz--has apparently turned a bit prudish. As part of its weekly "Bond Picture Show," ABC aired "Diamonds are Forever" Saturday night (3/2) with a rather curious digital alteration, TSG has discovered. In scenes featuring Bond girl Plenty O'Toole, the ABC version magically added a black bra on the body of actress Lana Wood where one had not previously existed in the 1971 film. It's unclear why the digital addition was done, since Wood's character shows nothing that would have even jeopardized the flick's original PG rating..."  5:52:19 PM  permalink

Reuters | Breaking News from Around the Globe: "An 80-page fax containing details of Queen Elizabeth's Australian tour was accidentally faxed to a McDonalds fast food restaurant in Brisbane, a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace said."

A question for someone who knows more about the miltary than I do: The US is fighting Taliban and Al Quiada high in the mountains of Afghanistan--above 10,000 feet as I understand it. Are we, or have we considered, bombing the ridges above enemy encampments to cause avalancheswhich may either disrupt thier operations, or cause casualities to their forces?

If you've ever seen a large scale avalance, you know the damage that this can do. I witnessed an avalanche a few years ago that blew down the entire face of a mountain, burying (I think) 15 snowmachiners who were high marking there. If the Taliban are concentrated in any sort of groups, targeting them with a wall of snow travelling at several hundred miles per hour seems like a plausible strategy.  11:47:32 AM  permalink
