Someone told me that this photo reminded them of a "21st century Ansel Adams", which is about the nicest compliment anyone has every paid to my photography.
And though the image looks swell here, I'd encourage you to go take a look at the uncompressed version on PhotoSIG, where it looks much, much, nicer. I lost a lot of detail and tonality while trying to save it in a format that wouldn't choke the connection of my dial-up freinds. 10:13:18 PM

Living in Alaska its easy to get jaded by all the beutiful scenery (and giant cabbage), but today, I remembered why I love it here. Driving home from Whittier tonight, under the crisp blue autumn skies, I saw a pod of Beluga whales--there must have been hundreds of them--swimming up the Turnagain Arm. They were breaching all over the place, sometimes as many as six at time. Tourists and locals alike were pouring out of there cars to watch. It was just amazing..
And my camera batteries were dead. 9:41:30 PM

Anchorage Daily News | And This Cabbage Placed Second: "Bob Stasko, left, helps Scott Robb haul his giant cabbage to the fairgrounds on Friday evening. Robb's beauty placed second at 85.6 pounds"
Texas, eat your heart out. We grow things bigger up here. 86 pound cabbages, 2000 pound moose, you name it, we enlarge it. You've got to click this and see the picture. 9:37:32 PM

Winter is almost here. That means its time to read these helpful hints for photographing the Aurora Borealis: "To keep warm, I just stay close to my pickup. After 15 minutes out in 40 below zero temperatures the camera and I need to warm up. I use mitten-gloves, fingers bare and a flap to pull over them. Generally I only freeze 4 fingers."
I've never been able to pull this off before, but maybe with this guy's handy exposure chart, I'll be able to make it work. 11:15:50 AM
