Thanks to the genius of black and decker, I think the flood waters are starting to recede. The splash when I hit my bottom step, though still substantial, is much less hearty then when I got home from work.

The casualties so far:
The carpet: toast
One very cool old record reel to reel player: DOA
My bedspread: stinky, but probably salvageable
My great grandmothers inlaid table: a little wet, but no worse for wear
A stack of laundry I carelessly left on the laundry room floor: Wet and stinky
Some book: Pulpy My wet/dry vac: Suffering a severe case of exhasustion
My shoes: ready for a proper burial

Luckily unharmed:
My Oxford English Dictionary (a $3000 dictionary damn well better survie some mild flooding)
My windows PC (too bad it didn't croak?)
My sump pump (though it appears to be practicing a work slowdown)

Unacounted for:

Crap, crap, crap!

You really don't realize just how much water it can rain in a week until it breaks free the bounds of earth and starts flooding your basement. If you call, I probably won't hear the phone ringing. I'll be too busy bailing water.  5:37:37 PM  permalink   Add a comment
