The Dice Man [allconsuming.net]
Ha! Nice to see this one mentioned; I should get a copy and reread it; it's years and years since I read it. It's the story of a guy who gives his entire life, every decision, over to the roll of the dice. Bizarre, twisted, compelling, disturbing; a unique book.

Bush Hubris Watch. Check out some of the reality behind Bush's fuzzy numbers from last night... [OliverWillis.com]
Must read. Smoke and mirrors. Bait and switch. I heard someone saying the other night that with Bush's low poll numbers, the Democratic nomination might be worth having. But the job itself in 2005 will be very very difficult. This bunch is digging us into an economic, moral, diplomatic hole that will be very difficult to get out of.

Bait and Switch. Behind the veil of President Bush's rhetoric is a Darwinian political philosophy that, if clearly understood, would repel the majority of Americans. By Bob Herbert. [New York Times: Opinion]
Must read! The speech was just, as they say here, bait and switch. For example, Bush talked movingly about AIDS, and it sounded real good, but then you remember that the administration is insisting that AIDS literature doesn't mention condoms. He makes this stuff sound good, but all the time, there's a right-wing ideology operating with its own hidden, really hidden, agenda.

Forgotten Friends. After a decade of abandoning grievances, opting for democracy and drawing closer to the United States, Latin America has been forgotten by the Bush administration. By Enrique Krauze. [New York Times: Opinion]
Of course, Latin America is too far away from Iraq; it can't help us there. The only place we're paying any attention to is Venezuela, because there's oil thar.
