MetaWeblog API

inessential.com -> Image uploading -> Here's an RFC for a new entry-point in the MetaWeblog API that uploads a new media object to the user's weblog. Dave Winer:

Cool!!  I like this!!!

A new (proposed) entry-point

metaWeblog.newMediaObject (blogid, username, password, struct) returns struct

The blogid, username and password params are as in the Blogger API.

The struct must contain at least three elements, name, type and bits.

This entry point could be a way to push the file to other server(s) or maybe even gain entry into a different network.  Maybe we could use this as the protocol to push the file onto a p2p gateway/network??

365 days of mp3

365 days of mp3. For the entire year of 2003, the 365 day weblog will feature one mp3 file (every day) to download. The content will be focused on musical pieces, but will also include spoken word.

If only there was an RSS feed with enclosures to accompany this...

I like to see a Creative Commons license associated with each MP3 file.  One that would include the ability to include them or  parts of them in audioblogs....then things start to get interesting....HG

See what I'm talking about

Smart Mobs ->  Moblogbranding: Seewhatimtalkingabout.

Nokia accomplished a nifty experiment in marketing as futurism (or was it futurism in the form of marketing?) recently when they gave four London design students models of their mms-enabled phones prior to their public release, then compiled the messages the proto-pro-moblog team exchanged and published a book about it: "See What I'm Talking About". An artificial moblog, published on dead trees. The website, though, is an interesting historical document in moblog history.

The Nokia 7650 phone has an integrated VGA camera that allows users to take and send multimedia messages, incorporating color images, text and sound. The students shared messages with one another for four weeks and created a new mobile community based on instant multimedia messaging.

Contra CEO Antti Ohrling said: "As an ad agency, we were drawn by the idea that multimedia messaging could be used as a base for creating new, interactive communities. This project shows that when you combine talent with technology and innovation, the results are inspiring."

Designed to be an experiment in social interaction, the students found that whereas many forms of electronic communication tend to abbreviate and limit shared experiences, the imaging phones accomplished the opposite: "It expanded and enhanced our ability to express ourselves and share that. It puts the human back in e-form communications," said Harriet Banks. [Smart Mobs]

Channel Storm's "Live Channel"

Adam Curry: Adam Curry's Weblog ->  live channel. I just tried out Channel Storm's "Live Channel". These guys really fill the gaping hole Apple left open with Quicktime6 and Broadcaster. Instead of presenting the user with all kinds of streaming options, Live Channel gives you a broadcast interface.

Really simple stuff, you import files you want to broadcast, or you can hook up your firewire camera (or usb for that matter). You start the server and it even spits out a ref-movie for you to announce your broadcast with. Perfect for showing a small group (up to 5) your movies or live stream in real-time.

Dunno about the price though, $699 seems pretty steep.
