New onboard wireless broadband service
Scripting News -> Computerworld: "On flight LH 418 from Frankfurt to Washington, Lufthansa AG today began a three-month trial of a new onboard wireless broadband service that allows travelers to connect to the Internet some 30,000 feet in the sky." [Scripting News]

anthonyjhicks.com -> "I've been pondering setting up audio blogging on my site for the past few months, and only just discovered the interesting sub-community of audiobloggers emerging. There's even a someone in Australia linking mbox to his blog, something that crossed my mind a little while back. The approach I prefer is setting up a dedicated phone line with a voice capable modem answering, punch in a pin, record the message, once it's confirmed hit a key to post it online as an MP3. There's one product that has potential for relatively easy integration. It's something I might setup for the next time I go overseas, but when hanging around Sydney, it's not really necessary as I've got nothing of critical interest to audioblog. "

Add a Soundtrack to your weblog
I just saw this nifty and useful Flash Component for embedding a simple, streaming MP3 player into a Flash Application or HTML webpage. For those who like sound with their text, this would make a nice free utility to add a sountrack to a weblog. |

Knowledge Publishing
Marc's Voice -> Knowledge Publishing
Scripting News: What if a university like Harvard, not just a few students, got busy mapping the world of knowledge on the Internet. Each student would take responsibility for some period of time for some aspect of world knowledge. When they graduate they pass it on, or even better, take the responsibility with them, into life. Does any of this make sense?
Mapping knowledge is definitely going to be the next big thing. While we are investigating new ways to create contents that are already mapped or that could easily be mapped using smart software and flexible standards, mapping the knowledge already available is going to be a huge challenge. Universities could help, in theory they have a huge concentration of intelligent people who doesn't necessarily have to be paid to do knowledge work. Specialized universities could take the responsibility to manage knowledge mapping of vertical sectors of current knowledge. This will require some new tools/standards to be developed and it's definitely going to be an interesting challenge. [Paolo Valdemarin: Paolo's Weblog]
I agree with Paolo. I think Dave has a unique opportunity to take the next big step.

BlogFodder launches
megnut -> BlogFodder launches. pb's launched his newest creation, BlogFodder, "A daily micro-mail that contains a word, phrase, link, or image that could spark an idea that could lead to a train of thought that might someday become the seed of a weblog post." It will be interesting to see how many people actually post on the topic, and how similar the results end up being. One of my all-time favorite writing activities was a high school creative writing class where everyone had to write a story with the same title ("The Greatest Meal"). The diversity of stories was fascinating, (mine ended up being about an anorexic girl). I wonder if BlogFodder will spark something similar? [megnut]

Cellular/Wi-Fi agile devices collaboration
RatcliffeBlog: Business, Technology & Investing -> Avaya, Proxim and Motorola are collaborating to deliver devices that can connect on cellular or 802.11b/a/g networks, depending on what is available to the user at the moment. Ultimately, this is the direction we'll see all IP networking going, as I've been saying for a while. This is a multi-mode device (with two transceivers, one for cellular and one for Wi-Fi), not true Software Defined Radio that roams across different frequencies and protocols using a single radio, so it is just a step toward the end-point of the evolution of wireless.
As a newly converted Vonage customer, I can't say enough good things about Voice over IP (the voice quality is excellent and the cost rock-bottom). There is no reason to pay a carrier for the use of a switch anymore. The devices described by the companies involved in today's announcement will approach the functionality of a the incumbent carriers' switches, since they will redirect traffic to the the packet network to avoid circuit-switched carriers whenever wireless LAN connectivity is available. Onkyo's new digital music server.
Gizmodo -> Speaking of connecting the PC to the stereo, the Integra NAS-2.3 from Onkyo has an Ethernet port and an embedded 80GB hard drive so it can both stream music off of your PC, or act as a digital music server in its own right. It can support up to 12 simultaneous streams, so people in different parts of the house can listen to different songs stored on the same box. And for the geeks, it runs on Linux. Read [Gizmodo]
