Nano-publishing and you

RatcliffeBlog: Business, Technology & Investing -> Nano-publishing and you -> Dan Gillmor stopped by to see Nick Denton and the result is a nice piece about the future of nano-publishing. My take is that the opportunities across all media are proliferating rapidly and there is more to the nano-media than just publishing. "Blogging" is becoming a kind of barrier to thinking about the porosity of the barriers to media success, because everyone is focusing on text. Audio and video are about to break this barrier, as well. This all relates to the interesting discussion of Clay Shirkey's laws of power essay evolving in my email this morning.

This stuff makes building your home entertainment system fun again.  For years developments in this space have been behind the times (sort of late 1970's design - AM/FM receiver, equalizer, cassette deck, CD player (80s addition) - spells boring).  With these new sub $300.00 WIFI entertainment components (I don't want to call them appliances) sparking our interests and being disruptive in this space, we should see a radically new design (central media server, Internet connectivety, WIFI, MPEG decoders, MP3, etc.).  I think alot of us have been patiently waiting for this and will welcome a new design for the digital home information/entertainment system.  This is the path to the home entertainment future and its not PC/Windows centric.  H.G.
