New Radio feature: shortcuts. I updated Radio by right clicking on the Radio icon in the tray and selecting "update Radio.root" I then went into prefs and enabled shortcuts. I then went into the new menu items called "shortcuts" and put some items in. This is the best way to include stories and major posts in a weblog. Very often you post an item that refers to previous writing you have done, this is a great way to shortcut the process (very similar to automated footnotes). I am also putting in the weblog links for the people I reference often. That way, when I type Dave in quotes (ex: Dave Winer) or bomb in quotes (ex:
) the link to scripting news or the bomb graphic shows up. [John Robb's Radio Weblog]

"It ain't like it used to be, but it'll do!" Blogging has been a motivitating factor on going back through my life and reflecting on my journey through life and thinking about the key folks who I have met on the way. Today, I listened to my Uncle Roy, who is moving up in years, recount stories about himself, his mother, and the boys ( my uncles). I got to listen how he went near Maxwell street with my grandmother to see the Mexican movies in the 40's, buy great food cheap in the open market, and run down my grandpa at the factory for the check before he spent it at the tavern. As my uncle did well working for the Mitsui Corp., he moved from the cantinas to hanging out at the Drake. Since my aunt Diana worked many moons for American Airlines, he could easily get passes to fly to the "in" spots in Mexico City, Acapulco, Puerta Vallarta, before they were hot vacation spots on the map. I had to tell my uncle, "Man, I didn't know you rolled like that!" He just smiled matter of factly. On the way home, he said he would be happy if his nephew walked with him to the local tavern and have a "brewskie" sometime. The first thought that came to me was a line at the end of the Sam Penkinpah movie "The Wild Bunch", when the old outlaw played by Edmond O'Brien tells his friend played by Robert Ryan who joins what is left of the outfit, "It ain't like it used to be, but it'll do!" Yeah. "It ain't like it used to be, but it'll do!"
