K-Logs in CPS This is a small continuation of an earlier posting regarding the aggregation of technology and learning technology knowledge among CPS staff members utilizing K-Logs. I quickly made reference to this in a conversation with the head of learning technology, Shirley Berry. The conversation was too quick. I think it made sense, the idea of supporting individuals in CPS to document and share thier knowledge so that the learning curve for all us shortens a bit.

Macintosh Support in CPS I had what seemed to be a good talk with the head of Learning Technology at Chicago Public Schools, Shirley Berry. I actually took a few minutes from the Enternet Tech course to walk across the hall to the Learning Tech Hub. I was pleasantly surprised that CPS was going to schedule classes for Macintosh network administrators on Macintosh Manager, which is run on Mac OSX . I am hopefull that a survey will be sent out to CPS schools to find out how many of us are Macintosh Network administrators, as well as who would want to be Macintosh Network Administrators. CPS in is under the impression that Apple is on the way out in CPS schools. Yet we know Apple is still number one in Education! So where does the truth lie. Macintosh OSX is relatively easier to learn and administer that comparable Windows boxes. No one likes to talk about the problems of security on Windows servers, particularly the Microsoft IIS server. I know one CPS WAN network administrator who would in a heart beat kick out the IIS servers in CPS schools and set up Linux boxes. He likes MacOSX as well! I will hopefully have more conversations with our learning technology leadership on this topic in the near future.
