Internet Access in Small Chiapanecan Town I had the rare experience of going back to a modem's snail pace in Mexico. Actually, the pace was not that bad. Our service provider Computodo, is a small "hole -in -the -wall" crew out of the city down the the road, Palenque. For some reason, the big telco Telmex hasn't deemed it a place to install their dial-in internet access. Just seems strange that a large tourist town, which pulls in a lot of foreign tourists, doesn't have Telmex dial-in access, though quite a few "one horse" towns have access here in Chiapas. Actually the local service is pretty good. I have to remind myself that I am on the edge of the Internet. One of the benefits of the Zapatista rebellion to Chiapas has been a large growth in communication infrastucture as a whole. New roads and highways have been built. New copper telephone lines have been laid.
