This edition of the Wayback Journal documents my first paid performance as a musician. I was very nervous in advance, and then numb through the performance. It reminds me very much of my Masters Thesis show, many years later. At the opening, as people were milling through the gallery, I could feel nothing. Not satisfaction at having finished, or pride at the work I'd done, or even disappointment. Just a big blank.
On the other hand, it's a bit comforting to read about my Dad completely forgetting a meeting. Nowadays when he does that, my sister and I worry that he's senile. No, it's more like, without my Mom to remind him, he just can't be bothered to keep track of this stuff.
And I have to laugh when I read that my mother "had no direct pressure" on her. Ha! It was her sculpture that was being dedicated. Okay, so I was self-absorbed. Really self-absorbed.
