2003 Denver Mayoral Election
Update: I received e-mail today from John Hickenlooper's campaign. The campaign says that the Rocky Mountain News has endorsed John Hickenlooper for mayor. It's true, here's the endorsement piece.
I'm surprised by their endorsement so early in the election cycle. Maybe they wanted to make sure that those 40,000 absentee ballots weren't filled out before they had announced their endorsement. Will we start seeing some poll information now?
The Denver Post is running an article about an effort by labor to get the convention center hotel issue on the November ballot. Most of the mayoral candidates offer a short opinion on the issue. They leave out Gary Cooper, the recent addition to the field, running as a write-in. Who's for and against? Against the hotel, Casey, Perington. For the hotel, Mares, Hickenlooper, Tate, Zavaras. Wait until I'm mayor, Elizabeth Schlosser. The Denver Business Journal also has a story.
John Hickenlooper is running a second political ad reports the Rocky Mountain News. His ads are framing serious issues in a humorous format. Hickenlooper has not worked his way up in party politics like some (most?) of the other candidates so he needs to build name recognition and can't depend on the grass roots support from the party regulars. The campaign has a link to the ad on his website. I'm still psyched that they went to the extra effort to post the ad in Quicktime, WAV, and wmp format. Inclusion is a good practice for a campaign.
I still haven't seen Ari Zavaras' ad on TV. I don't watch a lot of TV. Why isn't it available on the website?
The Denver Business Journal is highlighting the Downtown Denver Partnership Mayoral Forum today.
Don Mares is dropping his lawsuit against the Winter Park deal according to the Denver Business Journal. In his role as auditor he had filed suit to free up documents he required. From the article, "Mares said the city's agreement signed in December to turn over operations of the city-owned resort to Intrawest Corp. freed up the necessary documents needed to conduct the audit. It's now being written."
