2003 Denver Mayoral Election
North Denver voters are the subject of this article from the Denver Post. Don Mares is way ahead in support in this area of the city but the other candidates are showing some support especially John Hickenlooper and Ari Zavaras. The Rocky is reporting that yesterday Mares called on Hickenlooper to take a stand on cigarette smoking in restaurants. From the article, "It was Mares' first serious shot at Hickenlooper. Politicos say it likely signals that Mares believes he and Hickenlooper are the two candidates headed to a runoff after Tuesday's election."
A good time was had by all who attended the mayoral forum on diversity and ethics at the Wellingon E. Webb Municipal Office Building yesterday. Coyote Gulch was in the front row. City employees were able to ask tough questions of the candidates and for their part the candidates seemed to answer honestly. There were a few barbs tossed around also. The Denver Post has this story. Here's a related story from the Rocky Mountain News.
Housing and immigration were two of the subjects touched on at a mayoral forum in Northeast Denver yesterday evening, according to the Denver Post. Mayor Webb is effecting the mayoral election with his proposals to handle the city's budget deficit. Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News. Another article from the Rocky, this one about Mayor Webb's views on mayoral candidate budgets. From the article, "When asked whether Webb's comments meant the mayor was supporting the two candidates in Tuesday's election, mayoral spokeswoman C.L. Harmer said, 'Heavens no.' 'The mayor won't be endorsing before the runoff,' Harmer said. 'He's keeping his options open."
Denver's mayoral race is the subject of this story from the Casper Star Tribune. Interesting stuff, I didn't think people in Wyoming would care. Thanks to the Denver News Net for the link. The Colorado Globe has links to the same AP story running in Las Vegas, North Carolina, Chicago and Cleveland. Are local Denver politics that interesting to the rest of the country? Nah, they just like guys that make beer, I think.
Ari Zavaras' campaign sent staffers to meet with students at Thomas Jefferson High School on April 21st according to this article from Denver Student Voices. They wanted to talk to you Ari.
Phil Perington's second TV ad, focusing on the new city jail, is the subject of this article from the Rocky Mountain News.
