2003 Denver Mayoral Election
Don Mares is the subject of this in-depth piece from the Rocky Mountain News. From the Rocky, "That's the Mares style, friends and family say. Under that nice guy exterior beats the heart of - a nice guy. So nice, in fact, that people who don't know him sometimes think it's an act. People who know him say there's no guile beneath his smile." Here's a Rocky article about the Mares economic plan and another from the Denver Post. According to the Rocky, Mares plans to, "Leave 25 of the 50 mayoral appointee positions unfilled, which could save more than $780,000. Among the positions Mares said are necessary are a chief of staff, a City Council liaison and a spokesperson." The Rocky also has an interview with Mares and a short bio. Mares is also on the hotseat with the Knights of Columbus over his ties to planned parenthood according to the Denver Post. The Post quotes Mares, "I'm proud to be pro-family and pro-choice and to have served on a board of a group that provides low-cost health services to women of diverse backgrounds."
The Denver Post is running a story about the City Club Debate held yesterday.
Ari Zavaras has hit the airwaves with a second political ad according to the Rocky Mountain News. This one has him "reporting" live from Coors field. Do you plan to post the video on your website Ari? What a missed opportunity. Update: Here's a Denver Post story about the daily spots Ari Zavaras is going to start running. He's trying to get to the undecided voters but one analyst, Steve Welchert, is quoted in the article as saying the daily spots are a, "horrible idea." Ouch! I think he's trying to make sure he doesn't finish third with money unspent. Terry Considine and Jake Jabs both thought they could get a seat in the US Senate in the 80's by spending the most money. Neither did.
