2004 Presidential Election

Here's an article about Dennis Kucinich's visit to Colorado last week. He sat down with the Denver Post editorial staff for a little conversation about Iraq and other subjects [April 10, 2004, "Kucinich rails against Bush's Iraq policies"]. From the article, "'I'm staying in to bring a clear set of principles to the Democratic Party. It has no clear-cut positions on a number of issues. I'm trying to give cachet to issues like peace and health care,' he said. 'The Democrats lost the election in 2000 not from their ideas but from their lack of ideas. If we don't offer an alternative, if this country is still stuck in Iraq in November, it will cause a lot of voters to wonder about the Democrats.' 'We must come up with alternatives - like an exit strategy out of Iraq,' said Kucinich, who added that he believes, or worries, that the military draft will be reinstated if the country is still at war next year." A potential military draft is an issue for the 'Ol Coyote since my three children are of prime draft age.

Denver November 2004 Election

Precinct Caucuses are tomorrow. Here's some information from the Colorado Democratic party and a primer from the Rocky Mountain News [April 10, 2004, "Caucuses 101"].

Denver voters may face a large collection of ballot issues in November, according to the Rocky Mountain News [April 12, 2004, "Ballot of the bulge may loom"]. Proposals to change TABOR and Amendment 23 lead the way. There may be a proposal for Denver residents to approve RTD's FastTracks and some legislators want to fix immigration and allow school prayer. The Rocky has a listing of potential ballot issues here [April 12, 2004, "The ballot proposals"].

Peter Coors will announce his run for the Republican nomination for Ben Nighthorse Campbell's U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, according to the Rocky Mountain News [April 12, 2004, "Coors will enter race on Tuesday"].

Update: Dan O'Bryant is out as a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, according to e-mail from the Rocky Mountain News.

Update: Also from the Rocky, "Owens switches support to Coors." The Govenor is endorsing Peter Coors as Mr. Coors attempts a run for Ben Nighthorse Campbell's seat in Congress. Colorado is shaping up as an interesting Senate race. Some see this year's state contest as a potential pickup in the fight for a majority in the Senate.

Update: Taegan Goddard: "Senate control may hinge on Colorado."
