2008 Presidential Election

U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton is the early favorite amongst Democratic candidates, according to a USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll. Thanks to Political Wire for the link.

Denver November 2006 Election

From an Aaron Harber show email today:

"On Friday, February 11th, at 9:00 pm, and on Sunday, February 13th, at 2:00 pm, KBDI-TV Channel 12's 'The Aaron Harber Show' features a one-on-one interview with State Treasurer and likely gubernatorial candidate Mike Coffman as the first of a two-year long series of special programs discussing the 2006 race for Governor in Colorado.  The series-within-a-series will be formally announced in greater detail in two weeks but the Coffman program represents the inaugural effort to provide Coloradans with close-up examinations of candidates and likely candidates to a degree which is intended to blunt the impact of paid political television advertising in the 2006 campaign."

Fisking the Rocky Mountain News

A while back MakesMeRalph wrote, "Thank god Coyote Gulch reads the Rocky Mountain News, so I don't have to." Well Ralph life will be even easier for you from now on. Here's a new weblog, Rocky Watch.

Daniel Brogan writes, on the 5280 Weblog, "Lisa Jones, a frequent contributor to discussions here, has started RockyWatch, a blog devoted to fisking the Rocky Mountain News. Lisa's take on Denver's little paper is both stylish and brutal. Make it a part of your daily blog surfing." Thanks for the pointer Mr. Brogan. I wish she had an RSS feed.

Social Security

Josh Marshall: "We and many others had predicted that the president's angle here was to default on the Treasury bonds sitting in the Social Security Trust Fund. And now we can be pretty confident that he plans to do just that since today he said that the Trust Fund doesn't even exist."

Colorado Senator Wayne Allard was on to this line a few weeks ago. What can we do to get some sense of fiscal sanity back into Washington D.C.? The President and the Congress have grown the government to it's largest size ever along with increasing the debt over one third since 2001. Now the President submits a budget that ignores Iraq, Afghanistan and any privatization costs for Social Security. Senator Allard, it's time for you to show a little bit of good old Colorado independence and start working for your constituents instead of rubber stamping the President's spending spree. Is there a recall at the federal level?

MakesMeRalph: "Someone please tell the lunatics at the Rocky Mountain News that Bush's budget is larger than any that Bill Clinton submitted and acknowledges the highest deficit in the history of the United States. In the Rocky Mountain 'Looking Glass' News, they praise Bush for his fiscal restraint.  That's like praising OJ for being a good family man."

Meanwhile Tom Burka puts everything into perspective for me. He writes, "Makers of Zoloft to create new pill based on Bush's outlook...Side effects of the pill include blindness, dizziness, addiction, deafness, hypocrititis, ovationoriasis -- an inability to refrain from giving a standing ovation to the most shallow homily --as well as ever-increasing debt and susceptibility to a military draft."
