Wow is the feeling reading the previously linked John Udell Radio Userland 8 piece. I had to stop midway to post, digest, anticipate the rest. It's sounding like a community piece of software is being born. And while I've been here two years and have written a few pieces on stuff like this, I'm learning lots from monitoring and occassionally participating in this weblog community. Here are my sorry-ass referer logs, where have people come from to read my site And how many are there. I never really got that until just recently and never more clearly than in this piece...so far... "What this means is that Sam, Jenny, and Peter came to my Radio blog from their Radio referrer logs. Of course, since everything is transparent, they can see me seeing them by looking in my referrer log. "
Now I want to put my Referers page on my home page. Some sort of viewReferersBox macro or like it. Let everyone know that they get on the home page when they blog me (and use their link). That could really build a sense of community by seeing your site on my site (and vice versa). All it takes is a blog. Back to the article. |
Good morning, I should say. This day's been going on for a while already. A short nap from 3 to 5:30 am, then Sinthia to the airport at 6:00, Starbucks for a jolt, then home here and now. Just getting rolling.
Miles first pee-wee baseball clinic / practice / I'll-soon-know is this morning, GrandOutlaws may be down to take in a little of the action and breakfast afterwards. A momentus day. Also, need speakers for this computer and I think I'm going to spend the $300 or so and get a wireless access point / hub / PC card and try this stuff on my old laptop, as I've discussed before. Dry run for the new laptop I'm going scope out and get...pocketbook willing. Let's see where today leads. |
Jon Udell: Radio UserLand 8.0 Is a Lab for Group-Forming - "My life's work revolves around hypertextual communication, Web services, peer networking, and scripting, all woven together to achieve group collaboration. So it was inevitable that my path would intersect with this latest incarnation of UserLand's software, in which all these ingredients that have been cooking for years finally become soup."The Soup De Radio is what I use to build the current weblogs of the Vince Outlaw Radio Weblog Network>. 7:24:37 AM ![]() |
The Playboy Mansion - Here are some Aerial Pictures of The Mansion via Mapquest along with a panorama shot I took from the east part of the backyard (bottom right in pic) looking west toward The Mansion (and the sun, hence the glarey picture parts...click pic or here for larger 136KB image) behind the press tent for yesterdays PBJ 2002 Press Conference.
Great backyard with lots of birds, water, monkey cages, walking paths, the grotto. Met Tony the maintenance man when I walked back to get that panorama shot.
And I kind of feel strange now about putting those links to Mapquest for The Playboy Mansion. I wasn't the first to post the address...I found it here...but I did look for it. But I know I wouldn't be too happy with someone posting my address and pictures of my house on the internet. Is this strange for me to think? Since Hef has parties there with press and photos and such...and who reads this little old blog? |
![]() The Driving Directions for the Grand Canyon to Boulder segment are exactly what I just said Routemaster maps were lacking. Check out all the city names...ideas of places to stop...highway numbers...ideas of routes to take. Good map. But...the Boulder Destination Map is a fumble of a great feature...where you're headed is where you need a detailed city map...their's is so close, but too small of an area...but the fix is so easy. Give the Destination Map the same zoom, big map, print map functions from the standard Mapquest:Maps page...try this better Boulder Destination Map (great Big Map...oh sooo coool Aerial Photo...zoomable...woa). Yep.
The problem that I'm trying to solve now, and not seeing here at Mapquest or RouteMaster, is when you've got a long here to there (woa again...darn long...17 hours long Grand Canyon to Boulder) and need to break it into an extra day (or two, DF). And need suggestions for different routes to take. Talk to friends, I guess. A road trip guide book? A google search...not much there. Keep looking. And putting our hard work to good use. |
