Doc's Long Day's Day{permalink} "Oops. Final boarding. See ya."Doc begins a day of connection-less (or weak) connectivity, told by himself from the AirPorts and WayPorts of and to the fine South by Southwest (SXSW). "This expresses SXSW's New Media focus. The problem, which I plan to harp on during the Tuesday Panel I'm on, is that it turns everything into "content," rhetorically containerized for compliance with the shipping model by which Big Media and its Big Government sock puppets plan to bulldoze and trench the Net's creative commons and replace it with a broadband-enhanced expansion of the same old Media System they've controlled since they took over the ad hoc experiment we call radio, back in the Twenties."And what a day Doc has had...especially thinking such heavy thinks...late start and cancelled flight, oops lost ticketwallet and defective auto-time-zone-detector, missed flight and most-likely-blog-til-5:something...and it ain't over yet. I bet Doc party's hard tonight and most others before heading back to his blog-throne at home. I'm sure he'll be welcomed like the blog-king he is at what seems like a very cool event. And he does as I would and rejoices to get a real window seat for the final plummet into Austin, TX. Have fun Doc and keep us up on the happenings! How often does he check his referer logs? I don't look very often, but I made a real connection this afternoon about their importance in sending the message that someone's linked to you. I've got more connections I'm working on in this area. I have to reread the Udell (sp?) piece from last week or so.
Do folks like me that only have a referer or two in the logs count? Doc's been gracious and given me clicks before and I appreciate it. I'm just happy he keeps writing like he does. Look forward to hearing more from SXSW. |
Marilyn Crispell, pianist (and thinker), in a highly readable interview (would love to hear her say this)... "I like the interaction between set structure and improvisation. I am convinced that musical freedom is only bearable against the background of great musical experience. You have to know what you're doing and you have to know the reasons why you are not doing something." Is this from the player's aspect? I think it's saying that you have to know the foundation before you can build on top of it...really use it. The words sound kind of funny if you think about it from a listeners view point. Do I have to be intimately involved in an artist over time (experience) for their music to be 'bearable' to me? It's got to be different for listeners. They (we) have to make a connection of some kind right away to bring us back to listen again (and get that experience). And it also points out that Jazz music is somewhat of a committment that we all make to try to 'get it', no matter what the artist is trying to say or if we dig it (or not).
Marilyn will be in town Wednesday, 3/20/2002 kicking off Atheneum Jazz at The Neurosciences Institute Spring 2002, so I did a little research to find the interview and used AudioGalaxy to hunt down some samples, which was successful and had me listening to her with the lineup for the date (Gary Peacock-bass, Paul Motion-drums...studs) on Nothing Ever Way. Anyway. (Albert's Love Theme). Introspective would be how I put it on first listen, but I'm also introspective with the inside of my eyelids right now. Maybe I can get Marilyn to talk to us on the air next Thursday when we're much more awake. Marilyn? |

To be able to post the eBay 'mail this auction...' to the weblog, you need to have the subject of the email match a preference setting in Radio. But it has to match exactly. And with the eBay emails, the subject changes everytime. The solution is to be able have Radio match a portion (maybe a regular expression) of the subject in order to get recognized and posted. Looks like a questions for the Radio Discussion group. 1:51:16 AM ![]() |
How do you wrap up a night (and day)? When it's still happening...or could keep on happening whether you were or not. There's always so much more to learn that can be comprehended.
So check out mayamogoldie on eBay! You can already see where we are kind of scaling up, integrating posting new items for sale on eBay with weblogs and RSS syndication using Radio Userland 8.0 Mail-to-Weblog. Those last couple posts (the highly original 'Check it out' headlines) were made by using the 'mail this auction to a friend' link by the eBay item. Manually right now, but there's got to be some feature that eBay has for notifying you via email when a favorite seller puts something up. You just make your email address the one that Mail-to-Weblog is periodically looking at and when one comes, it gets posted to the blog. And in the case of Radio Userland, also gets published to the entire world in the RSS version of XML. Cool. In a totally interconnected and syndicated sort of way. So, it would all be much easier if eBay had RSS versions of their notifications, so news readers could pick them up like any other headlines. The possibilities are limitless when you've got the data posting in a standard format and in a configurable way only available when you're running your own Desktop Content Management system, like...ta da...Radio Userland 8.0. So let's try one more, after all this ranting....there are other things on our mind tonight... |
