Want to send out shouts to Jeff F., a good friend not afraid to let me know when things look to be out of hand. And they are here on my weblog project and some pictures of a recent foray on eBay (mayamogoldie's actually, I'm just a bystander).

Jeff's confused by the face of the weblog at http://NewJazzThing.com and the fact that that actual page hasn't updated since early March. He's right. The bottom line is that I need to find a web server host for the The New Jazz Thing! site at http://NewJazzThing.com. I've just been working on ironing out a scheme for posting only Jazz related stuff to the NewJazzThing.com site and the VO braindump, currently called the Vince Outlaw Radio Weblog. AND I feel like I need a third separate feed/site that's only the stuff done on the actual Thursday Live show at Jazz 88 in San Diego (this one to be published to the Jazz 88 site...I'm prototyping this right now by having The New Jazz Thing site publish there at http://KSDS-FM.org/NewJazzThing.

Bottom line on the Weblog...Does anyone know any good web hosting in San Diego? I know it doesn't have to be here, but I'm kind of wanting to work on this with someone local who I can rap with and maybe even meet occasionally. Also, someone who might be interested in helping take The New Jazz Thing to the next level with multimedia clips from the Interview and such I'm doing on the Live show.

On the picture side, I really can't say why Jeff thought the pictures sucked on eBay. I didn't even look at them and I can't really be sure that I was the one that posted them. I know I did shoot them, but didn't really follow up on how they worked on the eBay side of things. Well, one remedy for that is to become more involved in what mayamo is doing there and take more responsibility for the pictures. We'll try and do a better job at that.

Sam Rivers boldly goes his own way; he makes a rare San Diego stop at Sushi

I'm off tonight to check out something New! I've heard lots about Sam Rivers recently...Anthony Wilson, who I interviewed just recently, was studying with Sam when he must have been in his early teens. Sam also has done work with Blues and R&B heavies like BBKing and Wilson Pickett, so it's totally intriguing to think about his avant-side and a show that works like this:
"At a concert last year in San Francisco, Rivers opened with a swaggering bluesy tune on soprano, accompanied by [Doug] Mathews on bass and [Anthony] Cole on drums. As the piece reached its first climax, Rivers slid over to the piano for a rhapsodic interlude, while Cole joined in on tenor sax. A few minutes later, the band turned into a wind trio, with Rivers and Cole on tenor, and Mathews on bass clarinet. And so it went throughout the set, with each tune revealing new textures and instrumental relationships."
Dudes switching instruments?! Not your typical trio indeed! We'll find out for ourself.

Internet Transistor Radio

Thinking wireless today. Wondering if PDAs, like the iPAQ have a speaker on them or a least a headphone jack. With a home wireless network setup, you could easiliy use a handheld to receive a stream of textual, audio, video content via an RSS format that contained enclosures for the audio / video / images portion. That stream could be coming from one of the full computers sitting on the network (like a Radio Userland 8, content manangement system setup) or even directly on the Internet. Is there an RSS reader for PDA's? Could an RSS file with enclosures, downloaded to the PDA, be used as a playlist for the content? I'm mostly thinking of this with Audio and Video as a means of producing a 'Variety Show' with tunes, video, interviews, etc. that could easily be downloaded and played on a PDA. Also, if a PDA can play a webcast stream, then the PDA becomes a transistor radio as longs as it's connected to the Internet. If if can download and play a list of content, then the PDA transistor radio works even when not connected to the Internet. I'm rambling and I'm sure I'm the only one who gets this picture. That's alright.

Pee Wee Baseball update. After a rain-out last weekend and an almost today, the yellows and the greens squared-off in a couple innings of 3-pitch-or-tee at bats, excited and interested (in everything else and baseball).

The Wireless Regional Finals

Chilling wirelessly on the new sofa, about 9 minutes left and Missouri clawing back into it against OK, 54-58. Not the exact ideal circumstances, as biggest young 'ens should be napping and ain't, but I'm resigning myself to that fact, and turning it into a Wireless Regional Finals party! And looking forward to game 2 in about an hour, Kent St. vs. Indiana.
