Blogging on the road. One of those rare alignment of the planets types of things where my wife and I both have need for business travel and the kids are out of school. Dropped the kids off at the grandparents and drove up to DC - the place were I grew up, and where we spent the first ten years of our marriage.
Catching up... saw Dave Winer's morning coffee notes. Comments on icons disappearing and the struggle to survive in a small company. FWIW, I know plenty of good people who got affected by "resource actions". When you have lost access to your primary source of income, it really doesn't matter what size the company you used to work for is. Or was.
When I was growing up, my father worked for Montgomery Wards. Started out in the drapery department, ended up as a district manager. For over a century, Wards was #2 in its market. Now it is gone. K-mart may follow. My father landed on his feet.
Nothing like going back home to trigger some good reminiscing.
