When a corporation wants your family name:

What happens when a BigCo bullies you against using your own name? Ask Uzi Nissan.

The Register: MS Trial news. The States lawyers screwed up. (Well what else is new. I predict MS will win in the end) Gilmore has his own comments on this as well.

Food For Thought: There are a great variety of ways of building applications these days. The most popular, in recent history,  seems to be scipt based web apps. And just for starters in that arena you can use PHP, ASP,  or JSP. Another popular way to create web applications uses Java / JSP or VB/COM/ASP.  In the MS.NET world we have even more choices, for example should you throw in a web service component and make the app talk to rich UI front ends like Winforms as well as script based front ends? Lastly, it seems that the MS SQL Server Team adds its own spice to the mix by allowing you to manipulate a DB over http without the need for a data layer like ADO. It runs almost entirely on XML.  And yes, you can use this technique to write an application of sorts, in which you might use a variation of one of the scripting solutions.

Am I the only one who thinks that there would have to be an awful lot of confused IT managers out there?

The Washington Post: Get ready for the truth to come out. The Post reports on a new book sales analysis tool. As a nation we will be caught reading lots of pulp and not the high-minded fiction of the NY Times Bestseller list. Watch and chuckle with me when it happens

News.Com - Problems with .NET My Services. This is a different rendition of The Register article below. Same subject, slightly different perspective. I love the way you have the "talking head" in the New piece all excited about Federated Services. Its kind of like my daughter who takes two piano lessons and swears she can do a concert. Where do they get these talking heads from? And of all things the company he is with is called 'Directions on Microsoft'. Hey! Come to think of it.... I scooped News.Com by having this story yesterday. Now thats cool blogging!

Sean Gallagher: How a bank used the wrong risk analysis system and lost their butt. Monte Carlo Risk Modeling is not a magic wand. This is an interesting piece because I use Monte Carlo in some project proposals as a way to model potential risks and budgets.

Mother's Day Rush Hour at the Flowermart

Many cities across the world have certain types of markets they are known for. Paris has the famous "Les Halles" produce market, which was the birthplace of French Onion Soup, Seattle has a well known fish market.

In Los Angeles we have a rather busy flower market, that entails many many small vendors and wholesalers. This is the place were all Southern California flower stores get their goods. I went to pick up some Mother's Day flowers and ran smack into a rush hour down there. Well, with all the great bargains available ( $4.00 for a bunch of Irises) , it is no wonder so many people showed up.
