Baseline: "SAS is great for a reason". I am glad I'm not the only one who notices a remarkable company when he sees it. Of course, some of us - like Patrick - appear to have our MS blinders on. Especially since this article details the core business of SAS is not CRM. My personal belief, for which I didn't have supporting data, has been that SAS develops number crunching software. That's how I knew them a few years ago during a financial industry project.

Ingo wrote a DevX review of Ja.NET, a bridge between Java and .NET Remoting that I've mentioned in the past. It's an interesting tool, and makes for great demos. IMHO the main drawbacks with the current version are that it doesn't support sponsors, which is kind of important when working with CAOs, and that it doesn't support events, which are one of the neat advantages of .NET remoting over ASMX web services. Hopefully these features will be in v2. [Peter Drayton's Radio Weblog]

.NET Performance Counters: Part 1. Performance counters enable you to monitor and analyze the behavior of physical components such as processors, disks, and memory; system objects such as processes, threads, events, mutexes, and semaphores; and even aspects of your own running applications. They can help you identify system and application bottlenecks and fine-tune system and application performance.

Wes Felter has a sort of an abbreviated article blogged in from the Emerging Technologies Conference. I wonder if they had WiFi set up for all the laptop users.

MSN Outage: Over the weekend MSN and a number of related sites were down. Seems we just had an outage not too long ago. So what is AOL doing differently and why do we not hear about AOL outages every few months? Is it simply that MSN has to use MS software? I really wonder.

It amazes me that Sony's price drop of $100 on Playstation2 is listed in all the newspapers. Are that many journalists into video games? It might be news on a gaming web site, but LA Times and NY Times? They must not have anything real to report.
