Last week I got a demo of the new Microsoft Office suite. Been burned by Microsoft too many times. Don't tell me it's open, because I expect, fully, that you will break anything I build in the next corner-turn. Microsoft's track record is really bad. It would be like booking a seat on an airline known for never making its schedule. Interop is not a feature you can sell if you don't honor past agreements. And Microsoft doesn't. [Scripting News]

Fallacies and War 'When facts are not available or convenient, there are many tricks one can use to present an argument. Here are a few examples of tactics the current administration is using to convince you and the world that invading Iraq is necessary.'

A very clear explanation of how the Bush administration is trying to fool the people. Techniques include: false dilemma, argument from ignorance, slippery slope, ad hominem attack, fallacy of exclusion, appeal to authority. Fortunately, it's not the people who are the fools. We see through them.

Lance Knobel quoting Joshua Micah Marshall: "[I]f you want some evidence of this administration's diplomatic incompetence, consider this. We publicly sold out the Kurds to get this deal. NOW: Commentary - Bill Moyers on Patriotism and the American Flag | PBS 'I put it on to remind myself that not every patriot thinks we should do to the people of Baghdad what Bin Laden did to us. The flag belongs to the country, not to the government. And it reminds me that it's not un-American to think that war ? except in self-defense ? is a failure of moral imagination, political nerve, and diplomacy. Come to think of it, standing up to your government can mean standing up for your country.'
