Berkman Center: How to back up your weblog
Manila includes a feature where managing editors can download a copy of their site. Dave has posted a sample macro that lets a user enter in their site's URL in a form and redirects them to the /downloadMySite/MySite.root page on their site. [UserLand Product News]

Internet Access for the Cost of a Cup of Coffee
"Hot spots" for wireless Internet access are sprouting in airports, universities and cafes. But should Internet access be given away? [New York Times: Technology]
The overhead is so low for some proprieters that providing free access to build customer loyalty is a no-brainer.

Apple iTunes and Disc Burner Part 15 'I might also mention that Apple's 128kb/s AAC rips for their music store are better than even QT's rips on highest quality. It would seem that they optimize the encoding for each song, much like they do for their movie trailers. This being the case, burning 128kb/s Apple Music Store AACs to CD's result in what I have found to be almost unidentifiably different from the original CD.'
Interesting. I'll take the last statement with a grain of salt but it's clear that Apple has spent some energy on doing as good a job with sound quality as they can with 128kb/s AAC.

RecordStoreReview.com : REPORT ON THE RELATIVE QUALITY OF AAC AUDIO TO MP3. 'I encoded the same track in iTunes using 96, 128, 160 and 192 kbps AAC and MP3, and one AIFF for reference.'
A subjective comparison which may be of some interest.

BW Online | May 7, 2003 | A Talk with iTunes' Conductor 'iTunes has become the most popular application used by Mac customers -- more popular than mail or word processing. To date, we have distributed 20 million copies of [iTunes software]. I explain that as a way to point out that digital-lifestyle applications are becoming a reason for purchasing a computer. And music is probably the most important one.'

Raed is back! [Adam Curry: Adam Curry's Weblog]
Great! I'd been checking regularly since he disappeared after the war began but saw nothing until today. Lots of catching up to do. What was it really like in Baghdad? 'Let me tell you one thing first. War sucks big time. Don?t let yourself ever be talked into having one waged in the name of your freedom. Somehow when the bombs start dropping or you hear the sound of machine guns at the end of your street you don?t think about your ?imminent liberation? anymore.'
